My mission

At the end of the day, my goal is to make the homeowner excited about having a few less things to worry about, surprised that it cost less, and happy that it took less time to take care of then they had expected.

Spring ToDo’s

As early as February you can start seedlings indoors with only a south facing window and a seedling starter pack. You can also use UV lamps to mimic the summer sun, just be sure to get full spectrum bulbs. Either way, this will give you a jump start on your flower or vegetable garden as Colorado summers are shorter than in other areas of the country.

Even before the last frost free date, which in Colorado is April 15th, you can plant cool hardy seedlings such as Brussels sprouts, lettuce, broccoli and cauliflower.

After April 15th, you can start planting your seedlings or seeds to start your garden. It’s also a busy time for several other yard jobs.

Get the sprinklers back online as soon as you can, as grass burns fast in high altitudes.

This is a good time to fertilize your grass with an added weed killer. If you’re spreading grass seed, allow a full month before you add fertilize because it will burn up the seeds. Water grass seeds everyday for 3-5 weeks. You will want to fertilize again in the mid summer and use a winterizing fertilizer in the fall to protect the grass throughout the winter.

Before buds start to show up on your fruit trees, it is a good time to trim. This can also be done in the fall and if you have a lot to trim, do half now and the rest in the fall to avoid over pruning and killing your tree. Be sure not to remove more than 15% of the trees branches in a given season.

A lot of people like to wash windows in the spring, but with all the rain, I recommend waiting until mid June. You want all the hard work to last and if you wait until after the wet season, it should last throughout the summer. If you have a handyman do your windows for you, be sure to have them do the inside and outside, so they can be sure to guarantee a thorough cleaning.
